The first annual Cape Cod Bay Challenge saw eight paddlers leave from Plymouth's Long Beach in dense fog. So dense, our support boat had to wait a mile offshore to avoid the car-sized glacial boulders that litter the sea floor in the area.  The fog soon lifted though and we had great conditions for our trip to Provincetown.  Seven hours and fifteen minutes later we stepped ashore.  A small affair by current standards, we raised $12,000 for the Ocean Conservancy and their international beach cleanup.  A great sense of accomplishment, and some new friendships were our rewards.  A group lunch and few beers at the Surf Club was the extent of the after celebration.  What a great day!

2009...my how we've grown. For the second CCBC, we had 21 paddlers and our first woman make the crossing.  Grueling conditions, no wind and HOT, made for a long 9-hour paddle.  Everyone was a stoked to step ashore and get serious about drinking some Ryde beer, chillin' with some great tunes from the Nate Mott Band and enjoying the party.  A much bigger affair this year, with raffles and auctions, including a new 11-2 SUP from Starboard, original artwork, gear galore, and more...thanks to our great sponsors.  The biggest change this year was our choice of a beneficiary.  We decided for very personal reasons to make Christopher's Haven our charity of choice from this point forward.  An amazing place for kids with cancer to call home while they are being treated for cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital.  We raised $35,000 to help the kids..way to go crew.

You may have seen the article in Standup Paddle Magazine about the 2009 CCBC. Please note that the picture shown with that article should have been credited to Amelia Hassler. She took some amazing shots that day, including the one you see in the header here of the website. Much thanks to all the folks that shared their great shots with us.

Christa may be small compared to the guys but what she lacks in stature she makes up for with heart

Early morning sunrise start

A growler of Ryde to celebrate the final mile

Mike sounds the official CCBC conch horn to get things started. Very frustrating that neither of us could actually paddle in 2009 but we made the best of it.

...and again at the finish.
